Hi, me again. Emily has yet to write the next Vlog. That will be coming soon so don't panic or anything. In the meantime I'd like to welcome you all to the new year - Peter.

The RIO tradition of naming years came out of the threat of the apocalypse happening in December 2012. RIO decided that if the number were replaced with a name the year would no longer be 2012 and instead become David, or Judy, or Mark, or Lolita and therefore would circumvent the prediction of the doomsday forecasters. The name Dave, for which 2012 was replaced came out of a radio interview (on Q, I think) where the host was asking questions of a "smart" computer. When he asked what next year was called, the computer answered Dave. RIO took that as a sign, so Dave it was.

We decided to continue on this tradition of naming the years to continue to keep the next tragic event at bay - because adults are crazy and there was bound to be someone predicting the end of the world at one point or another. So the next year was called Lilly. The RIOites wanted to be fair and alternate between male and female names.

This year, after much debating, and a shortlist containing a good name that had been co-opted by a booze company (therefore not eligible because it might upset the delicate adults who are in the RIOites' care), it was decided that 2014 would be replaced with the name Peter. Peter is a good solid name and one that should make the next year proud.

So welcome to Peter! RIO is happy to provide this world saving service free of charge. We like the world just as much as you.
