RIO's E-ZINE - OCTOBER
Poetry Month!!!

I Am From Poems
by the RIO Kids:

I am from credit card and Old Dutch running shoe
I am from the dusty
patterned dull, crunchy and shaky
I am from the dandelion roots, the Canada thistle
I am from Christmas eve party and big nose
From don’t eat the
cookie dough and don’t wear shoes in the house
I am from the puffy clouds in
the sky and daydreams
By Emma Gallop

I am from cheese, Crayola and chairs
I am from the cozy chair, large
and happy cinnamon smell
I am from the roses and the nut
I am from the opening one Christmas present on Christmas eve
I am from Grandma’s artistic view
From not touching the mountain dew
and not crossing the road by myself
I am from Narnia
By Angela Giffin

I am from Vase, Gold and table
I am from the dirty vase, it smells like cheese
I am from the river algae, the dirt
I am from Halloween
I am from sugar is bad, exercise is good
I am from green
By Emily Firmston

I am pencil, from Scheweppes can
I am from the messy disgusting
I am from Thanksgiving nose
From don’t talk to strangers
and too much candy is unhealthy
I am from the Bananas!
By Nicole Matthews

I am from Ouija, from Coca-Cola and chips
I am from ze dirty, sparkly and it tasted sugary
I am from ze Ouija board, ze eucalyptus
I am from late night Ouija board psychic powers
From séances are fun and sugar is bad
I am from cats
By Lelainna Dahl

I am from pencil, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Ouija
I am from the sparky, cinnamony, sweet and sour
I am from the unicorn, the cactus
I am from the late night Ouija-ing
and my secret identity as Batman
From Ouija rules the world
and Batman is always to be kept a secret
I am from a land where unicorns poop rainbows and CAAAATS!
By Emma Jones

I am from chip, Schweppes and cookie
I am from the sugary happy, it tastes like chocolate
I am from the grass, the dirt
I am from Halloween,
Mommy’s freckles
From I am smart and sugar is bad
I am from the House of Cheese
By Hannah Gallop

Slurpee Haiku

By RIO Club Kids

Half melted Slurpee
The old man sat with you
You have missed your bus

Smoothie Haiku

By Lelainna Dahl

Oh frozen smoothie
You are a tricky fellow
Frozen to a pole

Ninja Tanka

By Jessica Chen (written during Ninja Poetry Night)
Ninjas are awesome
And they are quiet and black
They move really fast
The can twirl swords like a boss
And cannot be seen at all

Years End

By Emily Firmston

School is coming to a close
Marker fumes smell strong
Staring at fields of fun and freedom
There goes the bell
We cram through the door
War with friends
Pushing and shoving
Heart beating fast as I’m running
Freed from our prison
Not looking back
Running on home
To a bath, Band-Aids and bed

Eyes

By Emily Firmston (inspired by Ninja Poetry Night)

Oh eyes they tell no lies
Let me see through their disguise
Heaven's angels from the skies
This ode to sight
Colours bright
Bliss and knowledge
from our eyes
Happy people that can read
Sad people that can’t see
People seeing things out of sight
Never thinking that it’s right
