Beware The Woods when the moon is full… By Andrew Finch
Beware The Woods when the moon is full,
Beware the inky dark,
Beware the branches that snatch and pull,
Beware their gnarled bark.
Beware The Woods when the mist sets in,
Beware that smokey shroud,
Beware the creatures that it brings,
Beware that pearly cloud.
Beware The Woods when the clock strikes twelve,
Beware the watching trees,
Beware the shadows you dare not delve,
Beware that which no one sees.
Beware The Woods when the sun goes down,
Beware the whisper of the wind,
Beware that howl, that ghostly sound,
Beware the darkness rising within.
Beware The Woods when the blackness grows,
Beware the coldness in your heart,
Beware the dance of countless shadows,
Beware your fate if you take part.
Beware the inky dark,
Beware the branches that snatch and pull,
Beware their gnarled bark.
Beware The Woods when the mist sets in,
Beware that smokey shroud,
Beware the creatures that it brings,
Beware that pearly cloud.
Beware The Woods when the clock strikes twelve,
Beware the watching trees,
Beware the shadows you dare not delve,
Beware that which no one sees.
Beware The Woods when the sun goes down,
Beware the whisper of the wind,
Beware that howl, that ghostly sound,
Beware the darkness rising within.
Beware The Woods when the blackness grows,
Beware the coldness in your heart,
Beware the dance of countless shadows,
Beware your fate if you take part.

"our happiness" by Alexis Kelly
was the
lights off
silence
between each
passing
moment of
noise
your grimace
turned to
lips curled
smiling
staring at
screens of blogs
scrolling
meaningless
sitting next to
each other
dreaming
future
small home
cozy
plants everywhere
cat to cuddle
sunday breakfast
reading in a
comfy chair
bookshelves lining
walls
mint green
but now
is darkness
heads down
silence
scrolling until
noise, laughter
filling the air
look at this
blog post
eyes meet
gleaming
meaning
in smiles
feeling knee
next to mine
energy flows
between
us
this has
meaning
our happiness
existed
in the silence
between each
passing
moment of
noise.
This poem is a shadow poem inspired by our happiness by Eileen Myles. A shadow poem is when you take a poem you like and copy the form or the idea of it and make it into your own. I wrote this one for a friend, about our friendship

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
Reinterpreted by Gabby Walker
On the ground
Last night in the jail
Eugene
flew over the cuckoo’s nest
from the long-tube-lights in the ceiling.
Eugene’s
wild grin
budges out of
his even voice
just enough to fool
the room of young patients
when they overloaded him in that filthy brain-murdering
hall and get it mopped up before I can catch them.
Eugene
creeps along the wall, quiet as dust
and comes up behind
the chief.
He knows what they've been doing, and I can see he's furious, clean out of control.
There’d be a chance of escape otherwise
And most days I’d be out sweeping the hall
One side to the other.
Do they stand a chance? Probably not.
But Eugene
Easily subtracts
himself from being in the same condition.
