REALITY IS OPTIONAL
MID-SUMMER E-ZINE,
A TIME OF BUG SPRAY AND SLEEP-INS

Dialogue by Isla Findlay and Sarah Kelland

1: *Stands silently and sighs, looking around.*
2: *Approaches shyly.*
1: "Oh, um hello?"
2: "Hi, you looked lonely."
1: "Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out who invited me here... the invitation was anonymous."
2: "My invitation was also anonymous."
1: Oh. I'll go look for the exit. I think it's that way." *Points to the left.*
2: "Yay, I saw an exit over there too. Let's go."
*Both walk that way.*
1: "Um, I swear this is where the exit was! See that painting?"
2: "Yeah, the exit was definitely this way. Now there's a painting instead. That's strange."
1: Hmm, what's that smell...? It smells like... *Collapses*
2: *Also collapses*

Dialogue by Rylee Arthur, Anna Findlay, and Sydney Ball

Alex: Where am I?
Melodie: Someplace downtown? I don't know.
A: My head hurts...
M: My feet hurt! This is why I don't wear shoes!
A: You could borrow my shoes...
M: I'll be fine, do you need an Advil? I'm sure I could get some from Aedan.
A: No, thanks... who's Aedan?
M: Friend from my job. Why do you ask?
A: No reason... have you seen Beth?
M: Describe them, I've seen a lot of people.
Beckett: Hey! I've seen you around.
A: Who are you?
M: Yo! Magic! I didn't know random people started showing up.
B: Haha... oh, do you honestly not remember?
A: You're all crazy...
M: I've been off my meds and I have object permanence issues. I don't remember a lot of things.
B: Oh... wow... Well, we went to high school together.
A: My head still hurts... where's Beth?
M: Are they the one obsessing over the chocolate fountain?
B: Who's Beth.
A: Beth doesn't like chocolate... ow! My head!
*Alex collapses*

Dialogue by Jess Tollestrup and Rylee Aruthur

Angie: Hey! Nice shirt, I love Van Gogh.
Beckett: Hi! I love your shoes! Where did you get them?
Angie: Honestly? Value Village. Living that broke artist life.
Beckett: Ahh. Well, Value Village is a treasure trove.
Angie: I agree. Umm... do you have any idea where the sound person is?
Beckett: No. Another thing, I don't know who invited us.
Angie: Wait, you too? Did you get an anonymous letter in the mail too?
Bekett: (laughs) No, I got an email.

Dialogue by Liam James Kapolo and Sydney Alice Labossiece

Joe: Hi, I like your hair.
Bob: Thank you! I like your shoes!
Joe: Thanks, I'm Joe by the way.
Bob: I'm Bob.
Joe: I don't know who invited me to this party.
Bob: Me neither, but I still brought them a gift!
Joe: What's the gift?
Bob: Some grass I picked from my front yard. It's sort of a last minute present. I was in a hurry.
Joe: Will you help me find who invited us to the party?
Bob: Sure! But first, did you bring a present for the host?
Joe: Yes.
Bob: Oooh. What did you get?
Joe: Some roses.
Bob: Where did you get them?
Joe: I bought them at a flower store today.
Bob: Cool! Well, do you want to go ask around to find the host?
Joe: Sure.
Bob: *Starts walking around the room.*
Joe: *Starts talking to people.*
Bob: Joe! I found someone who knows the host!

Earth by Liv Multani

Darkness once loomed over the Earth. No one dared to go near the shadow realm. It created a world of sadness and lost hope. Until, one day, a team of fierce warriors descended down to our planet. With their landing came a great shake upon the Earth. Could this be the start of something new? The war was beginning. The warriors almost lost the war, but suddenly, a star fell from the sky. Its light was all they needed. The star made the attack ten times more powerful. After buckets of tears, blood, and sweat, they won. Then, after years, a new species was born. Humans. They were something that had a huge impact on humanity. This was a new power: Love.

Light Over Darkness by Liv Multani

Once I was trapped in a cage. It was dark, wet, and cold. Sometimes, I wished for a way to explore the world outside of walls, but, alas I was trapped. But, one day, there was a crack on sunlight. It wasn't much, but it was there. I ran my finger across the cracks as the warmth slipped from my hand to deep into my soul. Could this be the sign of a break-through?

Worlde by Emma Yan

Welcome to WORLDE! Every marine biologist's dream! This is an amazing aquatic world where tons of ocean animals live! And... even better, the perfect place for curious tourists to visit! There are hundreds of interesting shops where lots of unique gadgets are stored. Like, take for example, bean fish. When you need to brush your teeth, but you're feeling a bit lazy, you can always get some bean fish to help clean them. Just buy some from 'Bean Fish Shop,' pop the lid off the long tube that they live in, open your mouth, and wait until the fish are finished eating the dirty bits of pieces of food stuck between your teeth, and voila! Everything in your mouth will be crystal clean in just a few minutes. But, be warned, your breath might reek of rotten fish afterwards.
