We have our theme song - RIO RULES THE WORLD. Cereal from Valhalla. A story from our latest RIOite. A paragraph poem sort of thing. Reviews for books that never existed. AND lots and lots of pictures. Check it out.

Tony Carter joined us at RIO yesterday to teach us about Character Development through a character support group. The kids had fun making characters with some serious problems from not liking being touched, short term memory loss, running away from home with a pet pig, being trapped either in the belly of a squid or under a rock deep underwater, and being an everything eating dragon, among others. We then devised ways of helping each other using our characters. The kids loved the play acting and learned some important ways of character exploration without even knowing they were learning, which really is the best kind of education - education through play. Thanks again Dare Devil, we had fun!
Dungeons and Dragons took place in the basement of the Alexandra Centre tonight. Of course that was after a lusty rendition of our RIO theme song - RIO Rules The World. Only two more meetings after tonight. One with a guest speaker, and one with roasted hotdogs and more Dungeons and Dragons. The kids took on killer skeletons and quite a number of dire rats. They found gems, fell in traps (Olive), kicked down doors (Jessica), showed an amazing lack of co-ordination (Nicole), and finally found the key to the dragon door. What lies behind? We'll find out next time, only a month to wait.
We are a talented bunch a RIO. We have a horror movie maker, a documentary movie maker, a tech - working on our five second movies (the loading bar inspired a spy shoot out during our poetry session - all recorded on film), essayists, poets, short story writers, novelists, comic creaters, and more and more and more. It's amazing what you get when you set up a no fail environment that invites kids to play with their words.
Hello RIO Fans!
Happy New Dave! And why you ask have the Rioites decided the year (formerly known as 2012) is to be called Dave? Well, the answer is quite simple. A very intelligent conversation computer answered the question posed by a CBC reporter, “What is next year called?” with – Dave. The RIO kids also thought this was a great way to prevent the coming apocalypse. After all it is said to happen in 2012 but not in Dave. So have a very good Dave, may it bring your fondest wishes. We’ll let you know what 2013 is called closer to the date. |
